Olcott Park was and is a big part of Virginia. It is a beautiful park with a playground for kids, flower beds, and an electric light fountain.
The park once had a zoo. See "Z" for more information about the zoo.
Olcott Park also has beautiful flower beds and a big greenhouse with fine tenders.
The playground for kids has huge slides, swings, monkey bars, bridges, and things kids get on to have a bouncy ride.
The electric fountain was an important thing in the park. There were only two or three of the electric fountains in the country; the small town, Virginia, Minnesota, had one. It was beautiful at night! It had lights and looked like a Christmas tree!
Olcott Park is today the location of many festivals, including the Land of the Loon. First, there is a parade down main street with a huge paper mache loon as the main attraction. Then, the loon is brought to the park, while people listen to music, eat snacks, and buy crafts! Later the loon floats nearby on Silver Lake.
If you're visiting northern Minnesota, make sure you drop by and take a peak at Olcott Park. I learned all this information at a little historical museum in Olcott Park.
Visit Olcott Park in Virginia, Minnesota.
