KALEVA HALL

(Fifth Grader, 96/97)
This is a place where Finnish immigrants went to have fun. There were dances, speeches, parties, English classes and more people who didn't like people who got drunk didn't have to worry because there was no drinking allowed!!!! They call it the temperate hall.
Kaleva Hall's foundation was built in an interesting way. When miners came out of the pit from their shift in the mine they brought up a medium sized rock from the mine and put it in a pile. Soon there were enough rocks for Kaleva Hall's foundation.
Kaleva means land of here reward and light. Kaleva Hall was built in 1906. Kaleva hall is made of brick and has a plaque on the side that says "In memory of John Stone." John Stone was a very important man he made the blue prints of Kaleva Hall. Kaleva Hall has a balcony on the second floor. It"s a pretty cool building.
