V is for Virginia
Our Town’s History
in Verse

The students in my 5th Grade class wrote these Virginia History verses during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years. The kids gathered the information from old newspapers, books, photographs, guest speakers, and trips to places of historical significance in town. We are unable to include here the accompanying illustrations, but if you would like a copy of the finished booklet e-mail me at: cholmes@rangenet.com

T his is our story
Letter by letter
Of a town that was good
And only got better
That’s probably why
Our grandparents say
This is the place
They’d like us to stay

a booming beginning
Then growing up fast
This was Virginia
A town built to last
We gathered the stories
Of people and places
Then wrote the verses
For you on these pages
